Equipment

Nord Stage 88 - In case you've been living under a rock for the past two years and haven't heard of Nord, they are fastly becoming the gold standard among electronic keyboards.  Nord focuses on lovingly reproducing all of the great vintage analog keyboard sounds from the 70's, including:

  • Analog synthesizers (Moog, etc.)

  • Hammond B3, Vox Continental, and Farfisa organs (including Leslie)

  • Fender Rhodes (Mark I, II, and V) and Wurlitzer (200A) electric pianos

  • Hohner D6 Clavinet with various mic and pickup placements

  • Amplifier cabinet simulation (for adding distortion, etc.)

The Stage 88 also includes authentic Steinway and Yamaha C7 grand piano patches with close or open mic placement.  The grand piano patches use separate samples for each note, for each volume level, and for each pedal position, making them respond much like a real piano would respond (you can even hear the wood resonate.)

Ensoniq KT-88 - The KT-88 is one of the earliest wavetable synthesis keyboards from the late 80's/early 90's.  The piano patches use separate samples for each note but not for each volume level, which makes them sound characteristically flat like the keyboards used in early Bruce Hornsby or Garth Brooks recordings.  The KT-88 also boasts a variety of very rich, layered, resonant synth pads characteristic of late 80's pop/rock.

E-MU Proteus 2000 - All of those spacey, ambient/techno sounds from the 90's, as well as authentic orchestral and percussion sounds galore.
